Do you want to create a free and/or paid private access on your site? Offer subscriptions and access to protected content?
There are many plugins that will allow you to set up Membership features for your WordPress website.
Although some plugins are free, you will be very quickly limited if you do not opt for a paid plugin. In addition, some plugins are available in Freemium version, but offer addons that put end to end can quickly increase the bill.
Below is a non-exhaustive list of the most popular plugins that we have tested for you:
- Simple Membership
- MemberPress
- PaidMembershipPro
These 3 plugins integrate easily with Mailchimp if you want to easily animate your community and Stripe or Paypal if you want visitors to pay to access some parts or contents of your website.
1/ Simple Membership
As the name suggests, Simple Membership is quite simple and intuitive. This is one of its main strengths and makes it a perfect solution for those looking for basic features.
However, you can add many addons, most of which are free or very affordable.
Digital Skipper is in the process of making some video tutorials that will allow you to quickly understand the tool.
Simple Membership has a very complete free version.
- Simple handling
- Most of the addons are free
- unfortunately the Members Directory addon isn't free, but not too expensive.
2/ MemberPress
MemberPress has the reputation of being the best in MemberShip plugins. But is it true? Well, yes and no.
This plugin brings a lot of benefits:
- Excellent UX
- Great client support if you have any questions
- Solid code
Nevertheless, some flaws still exist:
- A relatively high price ($249/year). Be careful, there may be significant discounts punctually.
- No free version to get an idea of the product.
- No native Members Directory and very expensive external addons
3/ PaidMembershipPro
Even if expensive, PaidMembership pro has a free version that allows you to make your way. This is not the case with Memberpress.
- Many videos available on their website to guide you
- Expensive paid version ($300/year for the 1st paid version)
Despite its price, this is the choice we recommend today.
In conclusion
We hope that this benchmark will have enlightened you a little more. Nevertheless, this market is evolving very quickly and the above offers and features may quickly become obsolete.
